SBDC Project Announcement: Genie Recon

Win for the Region: New partnership announced

Genie Recon, a partnership between Springfield-based SRC Holdings Corporation and aerial lift manufacturer Genie, will announce a commitment to expand. The advanced remanufacturing operation pairs SRC’s manufacturing expertise with the engineering of aerial lift manufacturer Genie to recondition telescopic boom lifts, equipment widely used in construction, energy, and industrial work, and represents exactly the kind of capital investment and job creation our economic development work is built to attract.

Housed in a 136,000-square-foot facility at 2065 East Pythian Street, Genie Recon currently reconditions Genie® S®-65 and S-85 telescopic boom lifts, with plans to expand to additional models. The process restores equipment to original factory specifications, fully inspected and tested rather than simply repaired or rebuilt.

“This is a great example of what happens when a homegrown company like SRC keeps reinvesting in our region,” said Jonas Arjes, senior vice president of economic development at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “Genie Recon strengthens our advanced remanufacturing base and builds on a long history of that sector in our community. SRC has a long track record of building businesses that last, and this new partnership with Genie Lifts is the next chapter of that story.”

Genie Recon employs 60 people today and expects to reach 90 by the end of 2026, with additional growth planned over the next several years. The operation is hiring across planning, production, maintenance, engineering, and warehouse roles, and offers technical training and tuition reimbursement to support employee advancement.

Near-term plans include adding remanufacturing capability for the electronic and hydraulic systems inside these machines.

SRC Holdings will host an open house at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, celebrating Genie Recon's launch. The event includes remarks from company, industry, and community leaders; a formal ribbon cutting facilitated by the Chamber; guided facility tours; and a live demonstration of a reconditioned Genie boom lift in action.
