Teacher Externship Program 2026
Immersive Experience Takes Place July 13-16
The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher Externship Program is designed to strengthen the connection between education and industry. This immersive, four-day experience places educators inside local businesses, giving them firsthand exposure to the skills, career pathways, and workplace environments that shape our region’s economy.
Through externships, teachers gain valuable, real-world insight that they can bring back to their classrooms — helping students better understand career opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce. At the same time, businesses have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with educators and play an active role in developing their future talent pipeline.
Why Participate as a Business Host?
Hosting a teacher extern allows your organization to:
Showcase your industry, workplace culture, and career pathways
Share the skills and knowledge students need to be workforce-ready
Build lasting partnerships with educators that extend beyond the program
Play a direct role in shaping the talent pipeline in our region
Businesses have flexibility in designing the experience, highlighting what matters most in their operations and giving teachers a behind-the-scenes look at their industry.
What Teachers Gain
Participating educators:
Experience the modern workplace and industry expectations firsthand
Engage with business leaders and employees across departments
Develop ideas and classroom projects that connect learning to real careers
Build ongoing partnerships with local employers
