Amazon recently announced that it is continuing its investment in the Springfield region with the addition of a new AMXL facility in Springfield. This joins the already announced fulfillment center under construction in Republic.

The Springfield AMXL site, located at 2960 North Martin Ave, is expected to open in March. It will provide “last mile” delivery of items ordered from Amazon.com and will include the ability to handle large, bulk items like televisions and furniture.

“We’re delighted to be continuing our investment and expansion of Amazon with Missouri with the addition of two new AMXL sites in Joplin and Springfield,” said Travis Autery, general manager – Amazon. “The investment into the buildout of our network means we can deliver a greater selection of items to our customers. We’re proud to be a job creator in Missouri, and with the launch of these buildings we will be creating hundreds of jobs all paying at least $15.00 per hour starting wage and benefits from day-one.”

As the retail environment continues to change, this project will aid Amazon’s development of a more robust distribution network in the U.S. and will provide jobs and investment for Springfield.  Springfield’s Partnership for Economic Development assisted Amazon in facilitating their requirement for this project and will continue to seek out opportunities to encourage additional development by Amazon and other e-commerce fulfillment facilities.

“It’s been an incredible opportunity for us to assist Amazon as they realize their plans for growth in our region,” said Ryan Mooney, the Chamber’s senior vice president for economic development. “Having a business-friendly climate, the right infrastructure and inviting industrial space certainly makes us more competitive with other regions to attract job-creating, growing companies like Amazon.”
