Mid-Session Legislative Recap

The Chamber's legislative advocacy team has been working hard to represent your business weekly in Jefferson City. They've also hosted a number of opportunities for you to interact directly with legislators, both in the state capitol and here at home. Below is a brief recap on how we've advocated for your business at the state level this session.

January 8
The Chamber’s legislative agenda is distributed to every member of the state House and Senate

January 10
Scott Marrs, Governmental Services Group, Inc., predicts a tough year for legislation due to the coming election in a meeting with Chamber members hosted by the Governmental Relations Committee.

January 21
The Chamber provides testimony to the House Workforce Development and Workplace Safety committee in support of Right to Work legislation, HB 1099.

January 22
Community leaders, led by the Chamber, meet with the Speaker of the House, President Pro Tem of the Senate, other legislative leadership and the Governor’s office during Springfield’s Advocacy Day, prior to Salute to Legislators.

January 22
Hundreds gather in Jefferson City as the Chamber and its Springfield Metro Partners advocate for southwest Missouri at the 29th annual Salute to Legislators reception.

January 22
The Chamber testifies in support of funding for the National Career Readiness Certificate, an important workforce development initiative.

January 31
The Chamber board discusses our 2014 legislative priorities with 13 members of the local legislative delegation.

February 4
The Chamber testifies in support of HJR 68, a proposal for a long-term solution to the state’s transportation funding needs.

February 21
State Rep. Eric Burlison discusses the advantages of Right to Work legislation with Chamber members at a legislative update hosted by the Governmental Relations Committee

February 26
The Springfield Metro Partnership hosts the first legislative breakfast of 2014, providing Chamber members with the opportunity to interact with legislators and discuss legislative priorities.

March 4
The Chamber provides testimony in support of HB 1444, which  would  give Missouri additional tools to compete for the establishment of data centers in the state.

March 18
In his remarks to the Chamber's Governmental Relations Committee, Sen. Mike Parson emphasizes the need for political candidates who are willing to compromise.

March 26
The Chamber provides testimony in support of HB 1482, legislation relating to punitive and compensatory damages.

March 28
Top business leaders and education experts discuss the need for rigorous standards to prepare students at all levels for the workforce.

April 4
Senator Mike Kehoe provides Chamber members with a “Transportation Outlook” at a meeting hosted by the Governmental Relations Committee.
