EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

Business Intelligence Analyst I-

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, communications, marketing, information technology, or other related field is required. Exceptional related experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree on a year-for-year basis. Must have at least one year of recent experience querying databases and aggregating data for reporting and analytics. Must have working knowledge of database architectures and design principles, data formats, and common practices.

 Business Intelligence Analyst II

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, communications, marketing, information technology or other related field is required. Exceptional related experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree on a year-for-year basis. Must have a minimum of five years of current experience querying databases and aggregating data for reporting and analytics. Must have working knowledge of database architectures and design principles, data formats, and common practices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Excellent oral and written communications skills are required. Must have the ability to make good decisions. Must demonstrate leadership skills that including the ability to manage, facilitate, develop, plan, direct and organize projects and people. Experience with business analytics and reporting tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, MS Access, Excel macros, Crystal Reports, Visio, Tableau is required. Analytical thinker with strong detail orientation is preferred.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Supervisor-IT Business Intelligence or designee, develops analytical solutions to support the efficient operation of the Utility. Designs reporting interfaces utilizing modern analytics tools (Power BI) to deliver actionable data visualizations and reporting to a diverse set of end users. Provides ad-hoc reporting as requested to enable business process efficiency.  Interrogates enterprise datasets to find meaningful insights and exposes those findings in a user-friendly and meaningful manner. Able to handle multiple diverse tasks and deliverables simultaneously. Aware of how data interacts across City Utilities’ applications and systems. Collaborates with all areas within IT and system/data owners to deliver solutions that consolidate information from City Utilities’ enterprise technology systems. An “expert” or highly experienced individual in Microsoft Power BI and other modern business analytics tools. Works closely with key decision makers and IT Business Analysts to identify how data and information needs to be presented throughout the company. Responsible for delivering descriptive, diagnostic and predictive analytical insights in the form of reports, dashboards, and/or ad-hoc queries from various data sources. Demonstrates key expertise in data analytics and visualization techniques. Provides best practice guidance based on working knowledge of database architectures, data formats and design principles. Performs other project-related duties or functions as needed when critical to business function.
