Position Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Technical Designer.  This entry level position is responsible for researching and crafting innovative ideas for unique custom built signs based on customer specifications, as well as, designing and documenting them using a computer aided design system.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Create 3D models and assemblies of unique custom built signs as required for assigned project.
  • Generate the required 2D drawings to document the design as required for assigned project.
  • Communicate design intent and requirements to Route Technician, Production Personnel and/or Customers and support production as required.
  • Collaborate with cross functional team including Project Managers, Graphic Designers, Purchasing, and outside vendors to formulate the most accurate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases documenting for future projects.
  • Participate in Pre-Production meetings by explaining vision and methodology for design and production of projects; participate in Production meetings providing guidance on construction of signs based on design, materials, labor, and pricing plan.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by understanding scope of work and reviewing proposals and updating blueprints to prepare estimated job cost.
  • Research, design, and create shop drawings using computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
  • Evaluate the function, safety, and appearance of products to ensure they have a practical design.
  • Collaborate and maintain relationships with outside vendors.
  • Assist with creation, communication and documentation of company standard fabrication practices.
  • Proactively learn changes, new trends and techniques for the profession and industry by attending new product presentations and interacting with outside vendors.

Position Skills and Requirements

Associate’s degree in a technical design field such as drafting, construction, engineering, mechanical, manufacturing or equivalent experience is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Experience with AutoDesk programs such as AutoCad required.  Estimating, manufacturing or fabrication experience preferred; prior experience in the sign industry a plus.    

The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading and understanding architectural and/or shop drawings and proposal and possess basic construction, engineering and custom fabrication knowledge.  The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, creative, adaptable and innovative with excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
