Salary Range:  $10.00 per hour

FLSA:  Non-Exempt

Immediate Supervisor:  Supervisor – College Grounds

Schedule Details:  Part-time (not to exceed 19.5 hours per week)

Position Summary

The part-time Groundskeeper is responsible for care of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds; removal of trash and debris; and care and maintenance of equipment used to carry out these tasks.

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform various landscaping and mowing duties.
  • Make sure flowerbeds and all monument signs are weed and debris free.
  • Perform seeding and weed control in lawn areas.
  • Plant, trim and provide pest control for trees and shrubs.
  • Keep campus areas, especially building entries, parking lots and lawns free of trash and debris.
  • Provide routine care and maintenance for mowing equipment, trimmers, saws, hand tools, etc.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous chemicals or waste.
  • Properly store and inventory supplies within assigned area(s) and notify supervisor of deficiencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of verifiable experience in a maintenance or construction field.
  • Previous grounds experience.
  • National Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: (The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.)

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.  Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel. 

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
