Schedule Details:  Full-time/12 month position/PSRS

Position Summary

The Dean serves as the operational and academic leader of their appropriate division.  The Dean provides visionary leadership for departments, advocates for resources, and partners with employers in business and industry to meet the needs of the workforce.  The Dean cultivates relationships with other educational institutions, employers, and the community for the benefit of students.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide administrative oversight of the daily operations of campus academic and student services functions, including supervision of faculty and staff in those areas.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, foster a supportive culture, and communicate a philosophy of education consistent with promoting overall student success and retention.
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate effective operations.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Provide and coordinate faculty orientation and training for instructors, as needed.
  • Oversee the development of course schedules and room assignments.
  • Monitor course enrollments and revise schedules as necessary.
  • Conduct formal instructor classroom observations and annual performance evaluations for full-time faculty.
  • Monitor compliance with program accreditation, Carl D. Perkins Act, and data collection and certification as required by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) and the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE).
  • Develop budget requests for campus academic departments and student services.
  • Address student concerns regarding course work and/or instructor conflicts.
  • Carry out student discipline in accordance with college policies and procedures, and in consultation with the dean of students.
  • Collaborate with local high schools and local business and industry to promote college programs, assess the educational needs of the community, and establish professional relationships.
  • Recommend academic programming that meets the needs of the region served by the campus.
  • Participate actively in the local Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and other community civic organizations
  • Pursue professional development and maintains appropriate professional certification, as necessary.
  • Serve as ex-officio member of advisory committees for programs within the Technical Education Division; serve as partners with local industry.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.


Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Approve relevant professional development activities for faculty.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in an educational administrative area.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate with Career Educator Director certification, Principal certification, or Superintendent certification from the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (or be willing to obtain current administrative certificate from the State of Missouri at the applicants’ expense).
  • Three years of demonstrated leadership as a school administrator in a collegiate setting, secondary setting, or both.
  • Experience with curriculum development, faculty supervision, academic planning, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated use of assessment and student analytics to promote teaching and learning excellence.
  • Experience with programmatic and/or regional accreditation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with business and industry, outstanding leadership and management skills, and understanding of teaching pedagogy.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity.


Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase student retention and success.
  • Experience in industry or a corporate environment.
  • Experience with selecting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing faculty.
  • Knowledgeable of national and state policies related to funding of Career Technical Education.   
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.  Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel. 

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
