Better roadways, no additional cost

In April, Springfield voters will decide whether to continue two sales tax provisions aimed at better roadways, including street resurfacing, improved intersections and school sidewalks. Your Chamber board has voted to support these issues.

Committee seeks nominations for 2016 board of directors

Chamber members are invited to nominate individuals for consideration for the 2016 Chamber board of directors. Once nominations close, this year’s Directors Nominating Committee will prepare a slate of nominees, which will be submitted to the Chamber board for consideration at the regular September meeting.

Deadline for nominations is 5 p.m., Friday, August 21.

Legislation brings needed health care training programs to Springfield

Thanks to the $26 billion budget passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor last month, Springfield will receive $10 million for the University of Missouri School of Medicine class expansion and Springfield clinical campus as well as $1.3 million for occupational therapy and other related programs at Missouri State University.

During the 2015 legislative session, over 2000 bills were filed and in the end, only 133 bills passed.  Due to a filibuster and a procedural move in the Senate, only two pieces of legislation passed out of that chamber during the last week - which has historically been the busiest.  We did see quite a few successes on long-term Chamber priorities.  Here is a snapshot on where some of those stood as the bell rang in Jefferson City on May 15.

State legislators get candid with Springfield's young professionals

More than 50 young professionals turned out bright and early last week to hear what major issues Springfield’s state representatives are looking to tackle in the 2015 legislative session. In the joint meeting of the Chamber’s Network for Young Professionals and the Governmental Relations Committee, legislators fielded questions on a variety of topics ranging from entrepreneurship to generational engagement in the political process.
