The Chamber’s economic development arm, the Springfield Business Development Corporation, is preparing for its flagship annual event. You’re invited to join us on Thursday, February 15 at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center for the 2018 SBDC Annual Meeting, where you’ll learn about economic development activity in the Springfield region and new efforts aimed at shaping our community's future.
This year’s keynote speaker is Joel Kotkin, an internationally recognized authority on the changing demographics of cities. He’s been described by The New York Times as “America’s uber-geographer” and serves as Presidential Fellow in Urban Futures at Chapman University in Orange, Calif., as well as executive director of the Houston-based Center for Opportunity Urbanism. He’s also the executive editor of NewGeography.com and a regular columnist for Forbes.
Kotkin will share his insights into how investing in a community can make it a better place to live and work, and we’ll discuss how midsize cities like Springfield can create prosperity and improve quality of life for residents.
“It’s fortuitous that Joel is returning to Springfield after ten years to discuss these topics, as they tie in so well with the visioning work that’s happening in our community right now,” says Ryan Mooney, the Chamber’s senior vice president of economic development. “Joel’s research demonstrates how making the right investments in a community can lead to growth and opportunity, and that’s a valuable message.”
Tickets are still available for the SBDC Annual Meeting. The cost is $40 per person for SBDC Investor companies and $50 for general Chamber members. Doors open at 11 a.m. for networking, with lunch and the program beginning at 11:30 a.m. You can call the Chamber office or visit our website to purchase tickets.
