  • Police/Fire Pension Tax passed by voters 55-45.

  • Springfield R-12 Bond issue passed by voters 65-35.

  • U.S. News and World Report named O’Reilly Automotive among its “10 Retailers Gaining Strength from the Recession.”  O’Reilly’s third quarter revenue is up 13 percent from third quarter 2008.  The company’s YTD gross profit is up 58 percent from 2008.

  • O”Reilly is also building a new headquarters facility.  The $8.9 million project is expected to be complete in April 2010.

  • Missouri State University was selected as the “2009 Award of Excellence” recipient from the University Economic Development Association for the IDEA Commons concept.

  • Some local/regional banks posted 2009 third quarter earnings that were above 2008 third quarter earnings including:  Commerce Bank, Great Southern Bancorp, and UMB Bank.

  • Drury University’s “D-U Uncut” live music program (an Austin City Limits style production) which airs on public access television in Springfield, has been picked up for broadcast in five Midwest markets:  Kansas City, St. Louis, Conway, Arkansas, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
     
  • Leggett & Platt’s third quarter earnings are up 17% over the company’s 2008 third quarter earnings.
