Community Leadership Visit 2017 - Boise, ID

Each year we select a community that is doing well in targeted areas that has ideas and best practices to share with Springfield. This year's trip is unique in that it marks the first return trip to a previously visited city. Here are some of the reasons Boise was chosen for 2017, as well as what we will be examining during our visit:

  • Regional Growth: How Boise's exceptional rate of regional growth has contributed to the betterment of the city
  • Capitalizing on Assets: The region has prioritized investment and marketing of its outdoors and other amenities; we'll learn how that has contributed to its character, brand and regional success
  • Tech Sector, Talent Attraction & Retention: A strong tech scene has emerged in Boise, and we'll focus on talent attraction and education efforts related to that and other key industries
  • Creating "The Most Livable City in the Country": Boise leadership is focused on a livable Boise and attracting talent to the region by focusing on data, quality of life and downtown development

Meet With Your Counterpart
Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial
 - The memorial opened in 2002 as an educational park designed to engage visitors to reflect, think and engage one another on human rights issues. Both the triumphs and tragedies of the human story are on display, but in every quote and every idea, we see the profound power of a single voice or bold action to overcome great odds and alter the course of history.
Payette Brewing Company Tour - Mike Francis, a participant in our Session 3 panel, is the owner of Payette Brewing. Join us for a brewery tour and tasting. (Check out this video about the company!)
Downtown Walking Tour - Join Ray Stark of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce for a guided walking tour of the beautiful downtown area.
Bicycle Tour - See many of the things we will have heard about during our panel discussion and get some fresh air at the same time. This customized tour will run an 8-10 mile course around the Greenbelt trails along the Boise River and downtown. The bikes are comfortable, cruiser-style rides and include a helmet - and the route is flat and paved! Participants will have time to change into comfy clothes before the tour.
