Qualifications & Experience:

MANDATORY: (M1) High School Diploma or equivalent; (M2) Ability to lift 50 pounds; (M3) Class E Driver’s License; (M4) Acceptable driving record; (M5) Forklift Certification; (M6) Ability to work well with others.

DESIRABLE: (D1) Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning; (D2) Previous shipping and receiving experience; (D3) Experience working within a collegiate setting.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Salary Classification: Non-exempt

Responsibilities: Performs various job duties related to shipping/receiving/distribution, fills office supply orders, meets the public tactfully and courteously and works independently in the absence of supervision using initiative and judgment in dealing with workflow and uncertain situations.

Authority: Acts under the delegated authority and supervision of the Shipping/Receiving/Distribution Supervisor.

Duties:

  1. Receives mail delivery from U.S. Post Office daily.
  2. Sorts U.S. mail by building location within the college daily.
  3. Delivers sorted U.S. mail/college inter-department mail to appropriate college buildings as scheduled.
  4. Sorts and re-routes returning tubs containing inter-department mail and U.S. mail for next scheduled mail run.
  5. Distributes and picks up afternoon mail at appropriate college buildings.
  6. Sorts contents of returning mail tubs and processes afternoon U.S. mail.
  7. Processes outgoing U.S. mail. (All mail must be sorted and charged by department with information recorded in one or more of the following categories: quantity, weight, pre-sort, library, postcards, certified, registered and parcel costs).
  8. Answers phone calls in a professional manner; takes clear and informative notes of phone conversations for mail room/shipping/receiving.
  9. Assists, as directed, by Director of Procurement in pickup and delivery of surplus property to be transferred to warehouse or auction location. Monitors Equipment and Disposal forms and keeps records of same for the Procurement Department. Maintains copies of all completed transactions.
  10. Receives incoming freight to include unloading freight and handling various freight carrier deliveries.
  11. Logs all incoming shipments by tracking number and correlates with receiving copy of respective purchase order.
  12. Coordinates deliveries to departments and maintains delivery logs verifying material tracking.
  13. Processes outgoing various freight carrier shipments.
  14. Records and maintains charges to the proper department budgets from the U.S. Post Office, UPS, FedEx or Ozark Mailing Services.
  15. Trains and works with work-study students hired in department as directed by Director of Procurement.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
