Brief History: Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. was founded in 1927 by its namesake, who was previously the leading producer for Chicago’s largest insurance brokerage. Today, Gallagher is one of the world’s largest insurance brokerage and risk management services firms with operations in 33 countries. We extend our client-service capabilities to more than 150 countries through a global network of correspondent brokers and consultants. Gallagher first went public on NASDAQ in 1984, moving to the NYSE in 1987. We have maintained steady growth, in part, through new business development and acquisitions. This strategy continually adds some of the brightest minds in the employee benefits business to our talent pool, and serves clients through an expanding local office presence as well as our national and multinational practice and service groups. Our global headcount exceeded 21,000 at year-end 2015. More than 3,300 of these employees are dedicated to serving clients’ employee benefit needs. Exciting News: There are a lot of exciting things happening at Gallagher! In March 2016, Gallagher was recognized by the Ethisphere® Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the fifth consecutive year. Companies selected for this honor "truly go beyond making statements about doing business ethically and translate those words into action." Early in 2016, Gallagher conducted its 2016 Benefits Strategy & Benchmarking Survey. Over 3,000 participating organizations provided responses surrounding their current benefit structure, short and long-term strategies and industry trends. Results of the 2016 survey are anticipated for release in August. In March 2016, Gallagher published its Best-in-Class Benchmarking Analysis, which looks at how high-performing organizations address the competing priorities of attracting and retaining a competitive workforce, and containing overall operating costs. And, in May 2016, Gallagher released the 2016 Human Capital Insights & Strategies Report, which offers perspectives on 19 benefit and compensation topics important to organizations that aspire to be a destination employer. Locally, Area Vice President Kristy Arciszewski was one of 29 Gallagher consultants named as a 2016 Power Broker by Risk & Insurance magazine, with seven other top performers on the employee benefits side of our business named as finalists. Power Brokers are selected annually from among thousands of nominees based on superior customer service, depth of industry knowledge and successes in solving difficult client risk-related problems. In addition, Rachel Rakey, the area president and branch manager for Missouri, was named to Insurance Business America’s 2016 list of Elite Women in Business, recognized as one of 144 honorees whose accomplishments are changing the face of the American insurance industry.
